An Indian-origin man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 76-year-old mother in the UK
Sindeep Singh, a 48-year-old man of Indian origin, has been convicted of murdering his 76-year-old mother, Bhajan Kaur, at their home in Leicester, eastern England. The tragic event occurred on May 13, when Bhajan Kaur was found by Leicestershire Police with severe head and facial injuries. After a 16-day trial at Leicester Crown Court, Singh was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 31 years before he can be considered for parole. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team called the case “deeply troubling” and revealed the extreme steps Singh took to conceal his actions.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team called the case “deeply troubling” and revealed the extreme steps Singh took to conceal his actions.
After murdering his mother, Singh went out to purchase a sack barrow and spade with the intention of burying Mrs. Kaur’s body in the garden. However, he was interrupted before he could carry out his plan. The house had been cleaned, and there was a strong odor of disinfectant. “There was clear evidence indicating the planning that took place after her death,” Sinski said.
The detective revealed that when officers first approached Singh, he provided false information and denied any involvement in the crime. However, further investigation uncovered that Singh’s motive stemmed from a series of disputes over the ownership of the family home, which he believed had been left to him by his late father.
“This has been an incredibly distressing and difficult time for Mrs. Kaur’s family, who are heartbroken by the loss of their beloved mother. Throughout the investigation and legal process, they have shown remarkable courage and dignity,” the detective remarked.
“It is unfortunate that this case had to go to trial, and the family had to endure the proceedings and hear the details of Mrs. Kaur’s final moments. It’s not easy for them—they’ve lost a loved one, and now they must live with the fact that her life was taken by one of their own,” he added.
The court heard that Kaur had previously reported Singh for his behavior, which led to his arrest on suspicion of controlling and coercive conduct. He was granted bail while investigations were ongoing. It was later revealed that Singh had been living in his car on the driveway of the house. On the day of the murder, Kaur had allowed him back into the house.
CCTV footage showed Singh leaving the house later that day and heading to a nearby store, where he purchased a sack and spade. He then returned to the house on Bolsover Street. When Kaur’s relatives were unable to reach her, they went to her home and discovered her body. Upon arrival, police officers found that the ground in the rear garden had been dug up, creating a large hole.
