Indian Gas Exchange Partners with Europe’s CEGH to Boost Natural Gas Trading
New Delhi: Indian Gas Exchange Ltd (IGX) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Central European Gas Hub AG (CEGH), a leading gas hub operator in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), to collaborate on trading natural and renewable gases.
Renewable gases, including green hydrogen, biomethane, and e-methane, offer sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels.
In a joint statement released on Friday, the two entities outlined their goal of strengthening India’s gas market by combining CEGH’s European expertise with IGX’s deep knowledge of the Indian market.
Key Focus Areas:
1.Natural and Renewable Gas Trading: Expanding the trading of natural gas and renewable gases like hydrogen, biomethane, and e-methane.
2.Market Development: Creating commodity-related certificates and developing trading platforms for green gases.
3.Training and Development: Conducting tailored programs and workshops to upskill Indian market participants and regulators.
4.Operational and Regulatory Enhancements: Sharing best practices from both regions to improve technical, operational, and regulatory capabilities.
The partnership aims to facilitate the development of a liquid, transparent gas market in India by integrating insights from both Indian and European gas markets.
Rajesh Kumar Mediratta, MD & CEO of IGX, said: “Our collaboration with CEGH will leverage Europe’s experience to accelerate India’s gas market growth and expand the use of renewable gases in our energy mix. Together, we’ll co-develop innovative solutions, enhance market efficiency, and strengthen energy security.”
Gottfried Steiner, CEO of CEGH, added: “We’ll bring our expertise in gas trading regulations, market liberalization, and hub operations to support India’s gas market transformation.”
CEGH operates Austria’s virtual trading point (VTP) and provides gas nomination platforms for international gas companies.
The MoU also includes plans to develop new commercial opportunities and innovative products, supporting India’s transition to a more sustainable and efficient energy ecosystem.
