iPhone 17 Series Expected to Retain Current Dynamic Island Design: Ming-Chi Kuo

The upcoming iPhone 17 series—which is rumored to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—is unlikely to feature any major changes to the Dynamic Island, according to market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This contradicts earlier reports suggesting that Apple planned to shrink the size of the Dynamic Island, which currently houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensors. While Apple is reportedly working on under-display technology for these components, it appears such advancements may not arrive this year.

Contradicting Earlier Reports on Dynamic Island

Kuo, a reliable source for Apple-related predictions, stated on X (formerly Twitter) that he expects the size of the Dynamic Island to remain “largely unchanged” on the iPhone 17 series. His claim conflicts with an earlier report from Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research in July 2024, which suggested that Apple would introduce a “metalens” proximity sensor to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Apple has previously modified its display notch, notably reducing its size on the iPhone 13 series before introducing the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro. However, based on Kuo’s analysis, users may need to wait at least another year for a smaller Dynamic Island.

iPhone SE 4 Could Feature Dynamic Island

Meanwhile, a separate report suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4 may adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14 while incorporating the Dynamic Island instead of a display notch. The next-generation iPhone SE is expected to bring significant upgrades in display, camera, and processor performance, with potential support for Apple Intelligence and Face ID.
