Shreyas Iyer has decided to skip Mumbai’s final Ranji Trophy league match against Meghalaya, which begins on Thursday, January 30, at the MCA-BKC ground.

India team captain Rohit Sharma has also informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his unavailability for the game, choosing instead to focus on preparations for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England at home. Mumbai, despite fielding a star-studded side featuring both Iyer and Sharma, suffered a home defeat to Jammu and Kashmir in their previous match.

“Iyer won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game as he will be preparing for white-ball cricket, along with Sharma and Jaiswal,” an MCA source confirmed.

Sharma had a modest outing in the last game, scoring 3 and 28, while Iyer managed only 11 and 17. Jaiswal also struggled, posting scores of 4 and 26.

As defending champions, Mumbai must secure an outright win to stay in contention for the knockout stage. They currently sit third in Group A, with Jammu and Kashmir leading the standings with 29 points and Baroda in second place with 27.

Sharma, Iyer, and Jaiswal are set to report to Nagpur in the first week of February as they prepare for the ODI series against England. Following that, they will travel to Dubai for the Champions Trophy.
