Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Reportedly Receiving First Software Update With ‘Bud Return’ Feature
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 is reportedly getting its first software update since launch. The company introduced its latest truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds in India in August 2024, alongside the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel 9 series smartphones. However, Google has yet to officially confirm the rollout or release a detailed changelog. The update is expected to address several user complaints, including a volume control issue.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Update Rolling Out in Phases
According to 9to5Google, Pixel Buds Pro 2 owners have started receiving the first firmware update since the device’s release. Initially launched with firmware version 2.117 for both earbuds and the charging case, the latest update reportedly upgrades the left and right earbuds to version 3.144.
A Reddit user has shared a screenshot of the update, and those looking to check for availability can do so through the Google Pixel Buds companion app by navigating to More Settings > Firmware Update. If the update isn’t visible yet, it is expected to roll out globally in batches over the coming days.
The report also mentions that updating the Pixel Buds Pro 2 takes less than 10 minutes when connected to a Pixel or Android smartphone running Android 6.0 or later. Post-update, users will reportedly gain access to a new ‘Bud Return’ feature, which notifies them when the earbuds are correctly placed in the charging case. Additionally, users will receive alerts for low battery, charging status, and pairing notifications.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Update Expected to Fix Key Issues
Recently, a Product Expert on the Pixel Buds Help forum stated that an update rolling out in the coming weeks would fix a volume control issue, where users were unable to adjust the volume using the paired device’s buttons.
Additionally, users have reported random disconnection issues, which the update is also expected to resolve. However, since Google has not yet made an official announcement, it remains unclear if the update includes these fixes. A detailed changelog is still awaited.
