On January 25, Akasa Air revealed plans to operate special flights to Prayagraj from Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru to accommodate the high demand during the Mahakumbh Mela. These flights will run from January 28 to February 26, with daily connections to Prayagraj via Delhi, while direct flights will be available from Ahmedabad and Bengaluru on select days.
The Mahakumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and concludes on February 26 (coinciding with Maha Shivratri), is one of India’s largest religious gatherings, held every 12 years.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved 81 additional flights to Prayagraj, increasing the total number of flights to 132 from various parts of the country. The DGCA has urged airlines to add more capacity and adjust airfares to meet the surge in demand, as prices for Delhi-Prayagraj flights have risen by up to 21%, according to travel platform Ixigo.
