Arshdeep Singh Becomes India’s Leading T20I Wicket-Taker, Surpasses Yuzvendra Chahal
Indian left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has established himself as a dependable all-phase bowler for India in T20 cricket. Capable of swinging and seaming the new ball against both left- and right-handed batters, he also excels at delivering lethal yorkers and deceptive slower balls in the death overs. His tactical approach and clever variations make him a valuable asset in the middle overs as well.
On Wednesday, during the first T20I against England in Kolkata, Arshdeep surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal’s tally of 96 wickets to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. His second wicket of the match, dismissing Ben Duckett, cemented this achievement.
Following an exceptional year in 2024, Arshdeep was named among the nominees for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award, alongside Travis Head, Sikandar Raza, and Babar Azam. He led India’s bowling attack throughout the year and played a crucial role in securing the T20 World Cup title.
Addressing India’s need for a left-arm pacer, Arshdeep consistently delivered standout performances. After the T20 World Cup final, he continued his impressive form, taking 18 wickets and troubling top teams like Sri Lanka and South Africa in away series, as well as Bangladesh at home.
At the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, Arshdeep was a key figure in India’s bowling lineup and played a vital role in the final. His penultimate over proved decisive, conceding just four runs and leaving South Africa with 16 to win. Additionally, he struck early to dismiss Aiden Markram and later removed a well-set Quinton de Kock, contributing significantly to India’s triumph.
