Google is rolling out Androids Identity Check feature to select Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones, with plans to expand it to additional Android devices in the future. Alongside this, the company is also extending its Theft Protection security feature to more eligible handsets. Originally unveiled in October 2025, these security tools aim to safeguard user data and devices from theft.
Identity Check Feature on Samsung Galaxy S25 Series & Pixel Phones
According to a Google blog post, the Identity Check feature is now available on Pixel devices running Android 15 and Samsung Galaxy smartphones eligible for One UI 7, which is based on Android 15. Currently, only the newly launched Galaxy S25 series including the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra”supports One UI 7.
On the Pixel side, the feature is rolling out to Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 series, and the Pixel Fold. Google has confirmed that other Android devices from competing brands will receive the feature in future updates.
How These Features Protect Your Data from Theft
Google explains that Identity Check enhances security by requiring biometric authentication to access critical accounts and device settings when users are outside their trusted locations. This adds an extra layer of protection for Google and Samsung Accounts on supported devices. Users can set trusted locations to reduce frequent authentication prompts, ensuring security even if a device PIN is compromised.
Additionally, Theft Detection Lock is now fully deployed on Android 10 and newer devices worldwide. Using on-device AI, it detects potential theft attempts such as a phone being forcibly taken while unlocked and automatically locks the screen to prevent unauthorized access.
These updates reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance smartphone security, offering better data protection and anti-theft measures for Android users.
