Defending champions India began their U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding victory over West Indies in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. A stellar new-ball spell from Joshitha V J (2/6) helped India bowl out West Indies for just 44 runs, which they chased down in 4.2 overs with one wicket lost.

Left-arm spinners Parunika Sisodia (3/7) and Aayushi Shukla (2/6) dismantled the West Indies batting lineup. Kenika Cassar (15 off 29) and opener Asabi Callender (12) were the only batters to reach double digits, while five players failed to score.

India’s chase was steered by wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini (16* off 13) and Sanika Chalke (18* off 11), securing an easy win.

India will face hosts Malaysia in their next Group A match on Tuesday, with Sri Lanka also in the group. If India finishes second, they will face the winner and third-placed team from Group D in the Super Six stage. The top two teams from each Super Six group will qualify for the semi-finals, leading up to the final on February 2.

Brief Scores:

West Indies U-19 Women: 44 in 13.2 overs (Kenika Cassar 15; Parunika Sisodia 3/7, Aayushi Shukla 2/6, Joshitha V J 2/6).
