San Francisco-based AI company Omi AI unveiled its wearable artificial intelligence (AI) companion at CES 2025. Designed to function as both a personal assistant and mentor, the device continuously listens to users and their surroundings when paired with a smartphone (compatible with Android and iOS). It can answer queries, take notes, and remember information for the user. Notably, Omi AI claims that a future over-the-air (OTA) update could enable the device to interpret users’ thoughts.
Omi AI Companion Now Available for Pre-Order
The device is priced at $89 (approximately ₹7,640) and is available for pre-order through Omi’s website. It comes in six color options and is expected to ship globally in Q2 2025. At launch, the Omi AI companion will feature audio-only capabilities.
The company also announced plans to release a separate “brain-computer interface” module, which will be sold later as a priority access feature. This module is expected to enable the device to interpret brain waves, allowing for more intuitive interactions.
Live Demo and Features
According to The Verge, which attended a live demo, the Omi AI companion can distinguish when a user is addressing the device versus another person by reading their brain waves. This eliminates the need for wake words or prompts. However, The Verge noted that the functionality of this feature could not be fully verified during the demonstration.
Apart from its potential thought-reading abilities, Omi functions like other AI wearables, such as the Limitless Pendant, Humane AI Pin, and Friend. It can summarize meetings, answer questions, search the web for real-time information, and perform other chatbot functions when connected to a smartphone.
App Store and Privacy Features
Omi also offers an app store with over 250 plugins, enabling features like sending audio input to Google Drive. The device continuously listens but gives users the option to limit its listening to the user alone or everyone nearby.
With its innovative design and potential future upgrades, the Omi AI companion is poised to compete in the evolving wearable AI market.
