PM Modi Condemns New Orleans Attack, Extends Condolences to Victims
Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the alleged terrorist attack in New Orleans that claimed 15 lives.
In a message on X, PM Modi wrote, “We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy.”
Details of the Attack
On Wednesday, an army veteran drove a pickup truck, bearing an Islamic State flag, into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve in New Orleans. The attack left 15 people dead and many others injured.
Suspect Identified
The FBI identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a Texas resident and former army IT specialist. Jabbar, who previously worked as a real estate agent in Houston, had allegedly shared extremist content online prior to the attack.
Anne Kirkpatrick, the police superintendent, labeled Jabbar a “terrorist,” while the FBI confirmed the discovery of an ISIS flag inside the vehicle.
Biden Calls Attack ‘Despicable’
President Joe Biden condemned the attack, describing it as “despicable.” He revealed that Jabbar had posted videos online indicating his allegiance to ISIS. Biden also noted an ongoing investigation into a separate incident involving a Tesla Cybertruck explosion near a Trump-owned hotel in Las Vegas. While there is no confirmed link between the two events, the probe continues.
International Condemnation
Global leaders joined in condemning the New Orleans attack, expressing their condolences to the victims and their families. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities exploring whether Jabbar acted alone or had accomplices.
