India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his participation in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy campaign, which resumes on January 23.

His confirmation came shortly after a Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official urged both Pant and Virat Kohli to play in the domestic tournament.

“Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy game against Saurashtra in Rajkot,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma stated. Pant and Kohli were earlier included in the probables list for Delhi’s last two league-stage matches of the tournament.

Pant, who played all five Tests in India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in Australia, was recently left out of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against England. His decision to play in the Ranji Trophy follows the BCCI’s directive urging national team players to participate in domestic cricket after India’s 3-1 Test series loss in Australia.

Pant joins other senior players returning to domestic cricket, including Shubman Gill, who will feature in Punjab’s game against Karnataka, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s next match. Meanwhile, Test captain Rohit Sharma has begun training with Mumbai’s Ranji squad.

The 27-year-old has played all 10 Tests for India since September 2024, following a single appearance in the Duleep Trophy. His last Ranji Trophy outing was in the 2017-18 final against Vidarbha in December 2017.
