Virat Kohli Doesn’t Need Captaincy Title to Lead, Says RCB Director Mo Bobat
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team director Mo Bobat recently spoke about the leadership qualities of former captain Virat Kohli after the announcement of Rajat Patidar as the new skipper for the team. Bobat emphasized that Kohli, despite no longer holding the official captaincy role, remains a powerful leader on the field, highlighting that Kohli doesn’t need the title to influence and guide the team. He pointed out that leadership is one of Kohli’s strongest instincts, which he naturally exudes regardless of his position within the squad.
Virat was an option for captaincy. I know that the fans would have probably leaned towards Virat in the first instance. But my point on Virat would be that Virat doesn’t need a captaincy title to lead,” Bobat stated. He further explained that Kohli’s leadership comes from setting the right example with his performance, emphasizing the impact of his batting consistency and intensity. Kohli’s exceptional run-scoring ability and high strike rate were crucial for RCB last season, and his determination and competitive spirit continue to motivate his teammates.
Bobat also acknowledged the strong camaraderie within the team, noting that both head coach Andy Flower and former captain Faf du Plessis frequently leaned on Kohli for guidance, a trend that will continue with Patidar taking on the captaincy role. “We’re pretty sure Rajat will also be leaning on him too,” Bobat said, expressing confidence in Kohli’s continued influence.
After Patidar’s appointment as captain, Kohli shared a special message congratulating him. In a video posted by RCB on social media, Kohli praised Patidar’s growth within the franchise and assured him of the full support of both himself and the team. Kohli’s message of encouragement underscored the unity and shared commitment within RCB as the new leadership structure takes shape.
