WhatsApp for Android Reportedly Developing New Meta AI Widget

0

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new widget for Android that integrates Meta AI, allowing users to interact with the chatbot directly from their home screen. According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, the widget is currently under development and not yet accessible to beta testers.

Details of the Meta AI Widget

The new feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.1.27. The widget, reportedly a 4 x 1 layout similar to the Google Search widget, features a light grey background, a white text field, and a camera icon. The text box includes the Meta AI logo and the prompt “Ask Meta AI.”

Users can type a query directly into the widget, which opens WhatsApp’s full-screen Meta AI chat interface to display the response. However, the widget currently does not show replies from the chatbot.

Image Interaction and Editing

The camera icon within the widget is expected to allow users to quickly upload images to Meta AI. The chatbot can then provide information about the images or edit them based on user prompts.

Potential New Features for WhatsApp

•Personalized AI Characters: WhatsApp may soon let users create their own AI-based avatars.

•Google-Powered Image Lookup: WhatsApp Web is reportedly testing a feature for reverse image search.

•Quick Support for Desktop: A quick support option is being developed for WhatsApp’s desktop client.

If launched, the Meta AI widget will be WhatsApp’s second Android widget, complementing the existing one that displays multiple messages but does not allow sending messages.
