WhatsApp for iOS Could Soon Allow Users to Add Instagram Profile Links
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for its iOS app that will let users add their Instagram profile links to their accounts. This addition is aimed at allowing users to display their social media profiles in one place, making it easier for contacts to connect with them. The feature was spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, though it is still under development, meaning beta testers are currently unable to access it.
WhatsApp to Introduce Instagram Link Feature
According to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is developing a feature that will enable users to add their Instagram profile links. This was observed in WhatsApp’s iOS beta version 25.2.10.72, which is available through the TestFlight beta program. As mentioned, the feature is not yet active in this version.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo reveals that the new option will appear in the Links section of the user profile interface. Users will be able to add their Instagram username by tapping a plus icon under the “Add Links” option.
The feature tracker noted that, for now, WhatsApp does not require users to authenticate their Instagram profile when adding the link. This means users could simply enter their Instagram username, which could raise privacy and identity theft concerns. It is expected that WhatsApp will introduce an authentication process before launching the feature to the wider public.
This new feature will be optional, so iOS users can choose whether or not they want to link their Instagram profiles. A similar option is already available for WhatsApp business accounts, but those users must log in to their Instagram account to authenticate the link.
Currently, the feature only supports Instagram links, but it is possible that WhatsApp may extend this functionality to other Meta-owned platforms such as Facebook and Threads. It remains unclear whether WhatsApp will allow users to add links to profiles on third-party social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) or Snapchat.
