In the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, both Indian and England players wore green armbands to show their support for the BCCI’s “Donate Organs, Save Lives” campaign. A BCCI release confirmed, “Both teams are wearing green armbands to support the BCCI’s ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ initiative, led by ICC Chairman Jay Shah.”

The England Cricket X handle also shared, “Today, we’re wearing green ribbons alongside India to support the ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ initiative.”

Several Indian players, including Virat Kohli and vice-captain Shubman Gill, lent their support to the campaign. In a video shared by the BCCI, Kohli said, “Score the ultimate century. Your organs can help others live beyond your lifetime. Register as a donor and make every life count.”

Gill added, “Be the captain of life. Just like a captain leads the team to victory, you can lead someone to life by pledging to donate your organs.” Other Indian cricketers who backed the initiative included batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.

Iyer emphasized, “One donor can save up to eight lives. Pledge today and hit a six for humanity.”

Rahul remarked, “Play the ultimate winning shot. Your decision to donate your organs can be the match-winning moment in someone’s life. Be a hero off the field too.”

In the match, Gill scored his seventh century as India posted a strong total of 356 all out in 50 overs against England. Gill made 112 off 102 balls, including 14 boundaries and three sixes. He received solid support from Virat Kohli (52 off 55 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (78 off 64 balls), with two century partnerships—116 runs for the second wicket between Gill and Kohli, and 104 runs between Gill and Iyer.

England’s best bowler was leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who took 4 wickets for 64 runs in 10 overs.
