Woman Claims Elon Musk’s Grok AI Diagnosed Fracture That Doctors Missed
A concerned father shared a detailed account of how Elon Musk’s Grok AI helped diagnose his daughter’s fracture, which had been missed by doctors.
According to the post, his daughter had been in a serious car accident a week earlier and was experiencing severe arm pain. By early morning, he suspected it was broken due to the way she was favoring it and the intensity of her pain.
The family visited Urgent Care, where doctors conducted a physical examination and X-rays. Both the attending doctor and radiologist determined there was no fracture, diagnosing it instead as a soft tissue injury. She was sent home with an ace wrap and ibuprofen. Before leaving, the father requested printed copies of the X-rays to share with her primary care physician (PCP).
However, as his daughter’s condition worsened—her hands turning cold and thumb movement restricted—he decided to do his own research.
Grok AI Detects the Fracture
After uploading the X-ray to Grok AI, the system identified a “clear fracture line in the distal radius.” It also clarified that it was a fracture, not a fused growth plate, as doctors had initially suggested.
Following Grok’s diagnosis, they visited the PCP, received a referral to an orthopedic specialist, and underwent additional X-rays. The wrist specialist confirmed the AI’s diagnosis—a distal radial head fracture with dorsal displacement.
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The post sparked diverse opinions online.
One user acknowledged the doctors had missed the fracture but pointed out that the second doctor had the advantage of more time, worsening symptoms, and additional tests, making an accurate diagnosis easier.
Another user expressed concern over declining medical competency, writing:
“This is pretty wild. The competency crisis is real and getting worse. Getting a second opinion from doctors is now my default setting.”
A third user humorously noted Grok’s usual nuanced responses, adding:
“Amazing that Grok was so confident in the diagnosis. Every time I ask her a question, she starts with: ‘This issue is multifaceted and highly nuanced…’”
The case has ignited discussions about the potential role of AI in medical diagnostics and the importance of second opinions in healthcare.
Elon Musk Announces Grok’s New Image Analysis Capability
On January 3, 2025, Elon Musk announced on X that Grok AI can now analyze images, ranging from medical scans to video games.
“You can upload any image to Grok for analysis, from medical tests to video games! Just tap the + button or paste the image into the entry bar,” Musk wrote on X.
Developed in partnership with Black Forest Labs, Grok also has the ability to generate images using the Flux 1 model. However, according to the chatbot’s guidelines, free users have certain restrictions:
•A limit of 10 questions every two hours
•A daily cap of three image analyses
•A maximum of four image generations
Originally launched by xAI in 2023, Grok was later integrated into X (formerly Twitter), expanding its capabilities in AI-driven image interpretation and content generation.
