Meta Plans to Introduce AI Bots on Instagram and Facebook: Report

Meta, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, is reportedly planning to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) bots into its social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, according to the Financial Times. This move aims to retain users and attract younger audiences by rolling out various AI-powered features.

One such product will allow users to create AI-driven characters on both platforms. Connor Hayes, Meta’s vice-president of product for generative AI, explained that these AI bots would eventually function similarly to regular user accounts, complete with bios, profile pictures, and the ability to generate and share AI-powered content.

These AI characters will be developed using Meta’s AI Studio, which currently enables users to design AI personas based on their interests or even create AI versions of themselves. While AI Studio is currently limited to the U.S., Meta has plans to expand its reach globally later this year.

While the introduction of AI bots may face skepticism from some users, it also offers potential benefits. For instance, AI bots could help flag and warn users about misinformation, although concerns about misuse and potential risks remain.
