Quickly Decode YouTube Videos with Google Gemini: Here’s How
YouTube, the world’s top video streaming platform, offers an overwhelming variety of content that no one could possibly watch in a lifetime. From educational tutorials and meme reviews to documentaries, it features a wide range of short and long-form videos, ranging from just a minute to several hours.
While Google Gemini can easily summarize most YouTube videos, the typical process involves copying the video URL and pasting it into Gemini to generate a summary. However, there’s a smart trick to ask questions or summarize a YouTube video directly within the app. Here’s how it works.
How to Use Google Gemini to Summarize YouTube Videos Without Leaving the App
1.Open YouTube and play the video you want Gemini to summarize or ask questions about.
2.Activate Gemini by long-pressing the power button.
3.Tap the “Ask about this video” button above the Gemini overlay, and Gemini will automatically capture the URL of the video you’re watching.
4.You can now ask Gemini to summarize the video by typing “Summarize this video” in the text field or even ask specific questions about it.
This method is faster than the previous one, which required copying and pasting the video URL into Gemini, as it removes extra steps and lets you interact with Gemini without leaving the app.
Before using this feature, make sure Gemini’s YouTube extension is enabled. While it’s typically enabled by default, if it’s turned off, open Gemini, tap your profile picture, go to ‘Extensions,’ and toggle the ‘YouTube’ option. Additionally, ensure Gemini is set as your default assistant.
This feature is especially useful for quickly summarizing long-form content, like documentaries or podcasts, that can often be over an hour long.
