US President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following the announcement that Trudeau would step down, according to a statement from the White House.

“Over the past decade, Prime Minister Trudeau has led with dedication, optimism, and strategic foresight. The US-Canada alliance is stronger because of his leadership. Both the American and Canadian people are safer due to him, and the world is better off for his contributions,” Biden stated on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, US President-elect Donald Trump, a Republican, proposed the idea of Canada joining the United States. Trump emphasized that he would not use military force to accomplish this but instead rely on “economic force.” When asked whether military action would be involved, Trump replied, “No, economic force.”

“Canada and the United States coming together would be remarkable,” he said. “You’d eliminate that artificial boundary, and it would also improve national security.”
